Hunter
telephoned me on Feb. 19, the night before his death. He sounded
scared. It wasn’t always easy to understand what he said, particularly
over the phone, he mumbled, yet when there was something he really
wanted you to understand, you did. He’d been working on a story about
the World Trade Center attacks and had stumbled across what he felt was
hard evidence showing the towers had been brought down not by the
airplanes that flew into them but by explosive charges set off in their
foundations. Now he thought someone was out to stop him publishing it:
“They’re gonna make it look like suicide,” he said. “I know how these
bastards think . . .“

The trouble with all this is that
the 9/11 conspiracy theories are already out there. Even with
*proof* can we really expect that the GOP attack machine, you remember,
the one that turned a decorated vet into a *traitor* and a *faker*,
wouldn’t have a field day discrediting Dr. Gonzo based on his past and
present vices? I don’t think the government is worried about the
non-sheep, as long as the loyal sheeple fall in step and drown the
others out.

onto a blurb in a Toronto newspaper – if you pay their f***ing blood
monye for a premium subscription, you will see that this blurb is fiction.
There was a call the night before, but HST was drunk and babbling and working on a story
about cell phone hacking.
