BOULDER — The Big 12 Conference and its television partners notified the University of Colorado Monday regarding September times and TV arrangements, and the pleasant surprise is that both of CU’s home games will be on national television.
The season opener against Colorado State on Saturday, September 3 at Folsom Field, will be broadcast to 100 percent of the nation on TBS, with kickoff set for 1:30 p.m. mountain time. It will mark the 11th straight year the clash between the two state rivals will air either nationally (seven times) or regionally (four occasions). Though CU leads the all-time series 56-18-2, four of the last five games, and the last three, have been decided by a touchdown or less making it one of the most entertaining series this decade.
A week later on September 10, the Buffs’ second game of the year against New Mexico State, also in Boulder, will be telecast nationally on Fox Sports Net. That game, the first-ever between the two schools, will have an 8 p.m. kickoff, with a briefly extended halftime that will feature a fireworks show. It will be the second straight year the Buffs will have a September fireworks night; last year’s against North Texas was a popular attraction for area families.
All other games, with the exception of the Nebraska game, remain on the selection menu for the league’s television partners by ABC, Fox Sports or TBS, most with 12-day notification though on two occasions they can defer to a 6-day pick. The Nebraska game, the Friday after Thanksgiving in Boulder, will kickoff at 1:30 p.m. mountain.
CU’s other non-conference game is at Miami, Fla., on September 24. ABC owns the first rights of selection for ACC games, and will announce which games it will televise that Saturday on September 12.
The remaining seven teams on the schedule are Oklahoma State (Oct. 1, at Stillwater); Texas A&M (Oct. 8, Boulder); Texas (Oct. 15, at Austin), Kansas (Oct. 22, Boulder), Kansas Stat e (Oct. 29, at Manhattan), Missouri (Nov. 5, Boulder) and Iowa State (Nov. 12, at Ames).
Colorado enters 2005 having had 120 of its last 183 games dating back to 1990 broadcast nationally or regionally (66 percent). That includes 83 of 110 games since the Big 12 was formed for the 1996 season. In addition, CU has had 40 of its 54 regular season non-conference games televised in this span, by far the most in the Big 12.
The 2004 CU-CSU game, televised to most of the nation via Fox Sports Net, set an all-time record as the highest rated college-sporting event for FSN Rocky Mountain. The game drew an 11.3 rating, translating to more than 158,200 homes in the Denver area, easily topping the previous two bests (8.9, CSU-UCLA in 2002 and 8.4, CU-CSU in 1999).

PYT Pretty Young Thing
Natalee Holloway is dead. Face it. There is some missing
girl in Philly – gone 10 days (instead of 2+months) who is months
pregnant, and left a 7 year old behind. But, CNN didn’t
care until today. She’s not white and pretty. Nancy Grace still doesn’t care.
CBS doesn’t care either. This morning, ace investigative
journalist Julie Chen interviewed E. Smart’s dad (Mr. Famewhore Smart
or something) because of the incredibly more important news that the
crazy kidnapper is still crazy after all these years, and,
surprisingly, F. Smart is not happy about that. Plus, there was
this exchange:
Smart: blah, blah parallels to my case blah blah here more stuff
about my situation which has been over for 2 years blah blah
Smart (revised by me to sound more worthy of the name): How the
Fuck should I know? The location, perpetrators, if any, agencies
involved, investigative practices and applicable law are all completely
different. This is the stupidest question you have ever asked
(off the set of Big Brother). Ask an Aruban or some other person
with a RELEVANT frame of reference. Plus, that girl is dead.
While the Aruba siutuation may be tragic, shouldn’t we spend out energy
focusing on missing people who may not yet be dead. EVEN IF THEY
ARE NOT WHITE AS WONDERBREAD AND PRETTY LIKE BARBIE?! [/rant]
War is over. (No, not really)
Washington recasts terror war as ’struggle’
Ok, the war against an idea is over. Well, not OVER, but
different. A struggle. George’s struggle. What;s that
phrase? Oh, yeah, Mein Kampf.
