Ash Wednesday

As an ordained minister in the Universal Life Church (their creed: “Do only that which is right” my version: “Be Excellent to Each Other”) it seems like I should have something to say today. Besides “don’t get none on ya” or “where are the lemons,” that is. According to Wikipedia (“Your source for making up plausible sounding doctrine on the fly”), God said:

Remember, man, that you are dust, and unto dust you shall return. Latin: Memento homo, quia pulvis es, et in pulverem reverteris.)– God, Genesis 3:19

Wiki says this is part of the Ash Weds. ritual. In other words…

I close my eyes, only for a moment, and the moment’s gone

All my dreams, pass before my eyes, a curiosity

Dust in the wind, all they are is dust in the wind.

Same old song,

just a drop of water in an endless sea

All we do, crumbles to the ground, though we refuse to see

Dust in the wind, all we are is dust in the wind

[Now] Don’t hang on,nothing lasts forever but the earth and sky

It slips away, and all your money won’t another minute buy.

Dust in the wind, all we are is dust in the wind

Dust in the wind, everything is dust in the wind.

Kansas, Point of Know Return, 1977

And there you have it. Be glad I didn’t quote David Bowie. Evidently, I am giving up an aversion to blasphemy, sacrilege and/or heresy for Lent. Watch out for lightning bolts.
