Joe, buddy. It’s time. Call it a day.
Hall of Fame? Shoo in.
Most years at a school? Will never be topped.
Shitty 19th Century offense? C’mon Joe. Even Bo’s QBs threw forward passes. Just not stupid ones. Carr owns you. And that is just sad. Well, not that sad. He needs to own someone, and Tressel ain’t gonna be it. Or Carroll.
you are an idiot to think joe is a bad coach (2nd most wins EVER)
Way to miss the point. Joe is legendary. No one disputes that.
Still, Joe is just a game day figurehead. Penn State’s recent impotence is partly his fault for the hires he put in control, and partly not, because they are making the mistakes while Joe’s depends issues and Jerry Ford moments are his great contribution. He had his day to be brilliant. That day is over, and so is he. Time to step down, while he can still do it with the remaining shreds of his dignity.
Your an idiot
He is the best coach of all time u stupid idiot and penn state has the beast offense in the leauge
>>Your an idiot
Thanks.
>>He is the best coach of all time u stupid idiot and penn state has the beast offense in the leauge
No. He is the winningest. That is a different issue. He was a talented coach. That plus longevity = the success you crow about. Good for him Now he is a caretaker and a joke. His “beast” offense is nothing special. Don’t blame Joe – it’s his OC that deserves the blame.
#6 team in the country, spread HD offense… not too shabby for being such a bad coach
He does less damage when he is not on the sideline

I’m sure you were on the Brett Farve should retire bus as well. Then he goes and takes his team to the NFC Championship game and loses to the would be Super Bowl Champions.
Your pretty much just another advocate of the mainstream media who is now hushed by the fact that Penn State is now #3 in the nation. Your original post was made back in January, which at the time, the team didn’t show signs of coming out this year pissed. Ever since Penn State started destroying their opposition, people like you have gone silent. The title of your blog was, “Why does Penn State suck?” and you claimed it was because of Joe Paterno and his “19th Century Offense”. Oh and lets not forget his “hires”. Penn State is back and is the team to beat in the Big 10 and who knows, possibly the nation.
Then your theory went to shit because PSU is running the show now, so you claim that the reason that Penn State is winning is because joe is in the Press Box. Joe may be up in the press box, but he has been in the press box ever since he broke his leg. He started the first few games of this season on the sidelines until he hurt himself doing an onside kick in practice. They still use their “19th Century” game and it seems to be working just fine. Why don’t you change the title to, “Why is Penn State winning?” This way you can say that it’s because Joe is in the press box. Joe has been in the box before and they weren’t winning. Truth is, teams go through ups and downs and good coaching and recruiting can turn it all around. I think the real question here is, “Why does Michigan suck?” Get a clue, and come up with a better reason as to why a team is having problems, other than blaming a coach that has been successful for 40 years, just because he’s old. Truth is, you were wrong, no matter what happens with the rest of this season, or the rest of his career.
Penn State’s recent success is in spite of Joe, not because of him. He doesn’t
They don’t suck this year. They are also not using their 19th century offense in favor of “Spread HD” or whatever. If I gave a shit about them, I might write something positive about the temporary reprieve from suckage. But no, I don’t care. This year, it’s hard for me to care about football at all. Michigan is in the crapper. (Fire Bill Martin.) CU is in the crapper. The Broncos (and the other Broncos) suck. The Lions are the picture in the dictiorary next to the word suck.
I stand by my post. Joe should ride this wave and then step off. He should continue as Penn State’s ambassador of sorts, or coach emeritus (like Bo was for 17 years at Michigan). An Elway or 2nd Michael Jordan-like exit would do him justice. A Favre/Michael Jordan (3rd time) overstaying-his-welcome exit would not.
Congrats on beating Michigan. I can live with it once every decade or so. Too bad for PSU that it happened in a so what year(PSU: As Impressive as Toledo), and not in a year where it means anything.
However, you cared enough about them to write a negative blog about them when they were losing.
“Penn State’s recent success is in spite of Joe, not because of him.” So in spite of would implicate that he is involved. Contrary to your previous post that he’s in the press box, basically doing nothing and that is why they are winning. Good to see you are coming around Dr. Gonzo 🙂
Because they sucked for several years.
Actually, I am not coming around. Joe is a figurehead, like Reagan. I have no problem with him going out a winner, as long as he goes. It’s time. It’s been time.
Joe built this program….so all the success and failure falls on his shoulders. Whether he stands on the sidelines or sits in the box, he’s still calling the shots.
Dr. Gonzo….get outta the past…Bo is dead (when he was alive he wasn’t fit to wash joe’s undies)…
You’re just bitter b/c michigan is the taint of our great nation…economically, socially, and especially athletically….
You guys are having a great year (until Southern Cal lights you up for 50). Bo and Joe don’t really have a head to head , so GFY. Bo is God. Joe is more like Moses.
Joe is not calling the shots other than broad policy and some token clutch decisions. I have listened to him this year, and his head is not in it, on a nuts and bolts level.
Can he do it, however little “it” is? As long as PSU indulges him. Should he stay? from an outside POV, no. If I am right, all you lose is grandpa cranky pants. I understand PSUs economic reasons for keeping him, in order to satisfy the koolaid drinking Lions fans who think he does something. And, if YOU’RE right about the level of shot calling he actually does, I understand all the handwringing Lions fans would go through in letting him go.
We are proof positive that regime change involves some pain. We went from owning your flea ridden lion asses for 10 years

to being mostly competitive for 35 minutes and then having the walls crumble.
I think it would be good for college football for Joe to bail, and good for PSU in the long run for a good housecleaning. Sadly, I expect that in or out as HC, as long as Joe is around, PSU will continue to circle the bowl (will occasional bits of success) in its spiral of mediocrity. (Again, look to us: Mo and Lloyd – generally successful, but not nearly as good as Bo in his heyday (1970s) (MNC notwithstanding)).
Don’t be bitter. I actually like Penn State as a school, and considered it for post grad studies. I just think it needs a major freshening, and that can’t happen without the first step, which is a graceful exit by Joe, before an ungraceful exit is forced on him by more craptastic seasons (see2000-01, 03-04)
