Apr. 9, 2008 12:00 PM
Associated PressYUMA - Police in Yuma say a man fleeing a “beer run” theft at a local market drove his car through a stop sign and crashed into a truck, killing its 89-year-old driver.
Officer Clint Norred says a motorcycle officer saw a man stealing beer from a market and tried to stop him, but the man sped off in a small sedan. Another suspect fled, possibly in another vehicle.
The officer did not give chase, instead calling in the incident on his police radio.

Within moments, the driver of the sedan hit the pickup driven by Donald Francis Lindquist of Yuma, who died at the scene.
The 20-year-old suspect hasn’t been identified but is in critical condition Wednesday after being flown to a Phoenix hospital. The second suspect remains at large.
